The Pursuit of Happiness
It is a famous film.
It is based on a true story of famous self-made
millionaire Chris Gardner. Will Smith acted as
Chris and did a fantastic job which really moved
and inspired me. The story is touching and
sometimes even painful. Will Smith stars in this
moving tale inspired by the true story of Chris
Gardner, a
to build a future for him and his son,
his family. It is a right to everybody in the
world to pursue to the
happiness. Last term, my oral final test,
Happiness is my topic. I have done a good job.
Here is my oral text:
There is something in the world.
It has no shape, no color and no
weight. It can’t be seen or touched.
But everyone wants it very much.
What is it? Now I’m addressing to you:
that’s happiness!
Okay, I’ll ask you a question. Are you
happy? I think I can get the answer
from your eyes. Thank you! Well, the
right to pursue happiness is issued to
everybody in the world with his or her
birth certificate. But how shall we get
it? We, most of people, I think, do seem
to be dedicated to the idea of buying our
way to happiness. Actually, we know
how to make money; we know which way
it ran, but no one seems quite sure which
way the happiness ran.
What is happiness? Some asks people to
do this and do that and say, "This way
your desires would be satisfied. You would
get the desired objects and become happy".
People holding these views regard happiness
as satisfaction of desires and unhappiness as
denial thereof.
What is happiness? I can’t give you the exact
meaning of happiness, but I’m sure it’s an
attitude of your life. It is just like an old
Chinese saying: Happy is he who is contented
with what he has.
I have made only one simple rule for my own
happiness: Every day above ground is a good
day. When I hear a funny story, when I stay
with my friends, when I face to the nature, I’ll
be happy.
What is happiness? Someone said: Happiness
is everyone’s ultimate goal. Well, what is the
purpose or meaning of your life? Is your life
for you to be happy, or would you prefer your
life be for something else? Would that make
you happy? The result is whatsoever you seek;
you seek the cessation of unhappiness and the
satisfaction of happiness. You do all that you
do for happiness. In fact, the process of struggling
for my dream makes me very happy.
What is happiness? Happiness is never more than
partial. There are no pure states of mankind.
A famous poet once said: Whatever happiness
may be, it is neither in having nor in being,
but in becoming.
“And it was at that time that I thought about
Thomas Jefferson writing that Declaration of
Independence. Him saying that we have the right
to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And
I thought about how he knew to put the 'pursuit' in
there, like no one can actually have happiness.
We can only pursue it.”
Yes, I think the answer is here to why we are
always on the way and which way we want to go.
Recently, when I woke up, I always ask myself:
Why I am here? What do I want to? How can
I do for my dream? Can I suffer such painful?
"How many roads must a man walk down, before
you call him a man?"
I know. The answer is not blowin' in the wind.
On the way. Need my defrayal. This is life.
